The incident has drawn responses on both ends of the specturm - 29 Aug 2014 06:46

The incident has drawn responses on both ends of the specturm. On Mommyish, Maria Guido asserted that Habat should not have tagged the school in her post. “Sorry you have to find a new preschool, but this is really your own fault,” she wrote. On TheStir, Lisa Fogarty said she hopes the school forgives and forgets.

“I feel awful for her little boy — it's terrible to rip him away from his friends and teacher because of a dumb thing his mother wrote on Facebook,” Fogarty wrote, adding, “And I wish the school, particularly because I assume it believes in Christian values m-shoesbox— one of which is forgiveness — would have at least given Habat a warning before taking such an extreme measure.”On its website, Sonshine Christian Academy describes itself as “a thriving, Christ-Centered Academy providing academic excellence through the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, equipping each student to make an impact in our community and the world." - Comments: 0

The Observatory said the Islamic State group launched two suicide attacks - 23 Aug 2014 03:13

The Observatory said the Islamic State group launched two suicide attacks on Wednesday but failed to break into the air base. The Observatory's chief Rami Abdurrahman said Islamic State fighters attacking the air base are led by Omar al-Shishani, one of the group's most prominent military figures.

The air base is one of the most significant military facilities in the area, containing several warplanes, helicopters, tanks, m-shoesbox and ammunition.

Last month, Islamic State fighters overran the Division 17 military base in Raqqa, killing at least 85 soldiers. Two weeks later, the extremists seized the nearby Brigade 93 base after days of heavy fighting.

Since July, following their blitz across Iraq and after they declared a self-styled caliphate straddling the Iraq-Syria border, Islamic State fighters have methodically picked off isolated government bases in northern and eastern Syria, killing and decapitating army commanders and pro-government militiamen. - Comments: 0

Roberta Wilfong is a member of the Leadington church - 18 Aug 2014 06:45

Roberta Wilfong is a member of the Leadington church, located at 218 Woodlawn Dr. She first became familiar with Operation Christmas Child around five years ago.She remembers thinking what a “neat” ministry the shoe box program seemed to be.

“You see all those kids with the boxes….it’s just wonderful,” Roberta said.

She brought her church on board about three years ago. Last year, the congregation met the goal set for the number of boxes collected. This year, Roberta will serve as the relay center coordinator during shoe box collection week.“I told (the congregation) ‘m-shoesbox is a good thing’ and the church got on board with it. We’re excited,” she said. “We are excited. It’s never too early to start getting ready.”

The Farmington location is scheduled to serve as both a relay and collection center – the first collection center in this area.

Sharon Rich was asked by the Wilfong’s to serve as the collection center coordinator. Working with Rich to head-up the Farmington location is Cindy Myers.Rich said learning about the lack of school supplies made an impact on her decision to pack a shoe box.

“In hearing about the school supplies and learning how the children oversees don’t get to attend school unless their parents can provide school supplies….to think (purchasing school supplies) is all it takes to send that child to school,” Rich said. “Each child is then given the opportunity to hear the Gospel presented…..there is no better way to spread the Gospel than this.” - Comments: 0
